Dental Appointment and Pain

I just had a new patient come in because of pain after a routine dental appointment. She had a tooth that needed a crown and after the procedure she had issues with facial pain. Her general dentist prescribed a muscle relaxant and pain medication. She also made sure the forces on the temporary crown were all right. Unfortunately, the pain in her face still persisted after the prescriptions were taken. The dentist then referred her to my office. Upon taking the history, it became obvious to me, but more importantly to my new patient, that she had many long standing, underlying issues that led to her present pain. Unfortunately the long crown appointment put more stress on her system than the system could handle.
