Vestibular Migraine and Occipital Headaches: The Best Approach is not Medication.

Trigeminal Nervous System is key to 100% of headaches and migraines.

The standard medical approach considers this a migraine problem where it is frequently a posture and airway issue.

Occipital headaches are extremely common in patients with forward head posture.  Forward head posture can independently lead to symptoms identical with vestibular migraine.  

Forward head posture is also associated with TMJ or Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD).  There is also  a close association between small nasopharyngeal airways and TMJ disorders. All of the symptoms of Vestibular Migraine are commonly associated with TMJ disorders as well.

Trigeminal Neuralgia is one worst pains known to man and unfortunately it does not respond well to medical treatment and surgical results are varied and carry high risks.

Sphenopalatine Ganglion (SPG) Blocks can be the answer patients are looking for but there is no universal answers.  The use of Self-Administered SPG Blocks (SASPGB) is life changing for many patients.

Self-Administered (Parent Administered) Sphenopalatine Ganglion (SPG) Blocks should be considered as a First line Approach for Pediatric Migraine!

A new study in Pediatric Neurology looks at the use   of Intranasal Ketamine Reduces Pain in Children Hospitalized for Migraine.

This is exciting as children should never have to suffer debilitating pain.  However, due to the high efficacy of Sphenopaltine Ganglion Blocks in treating and preventing migraine a prudent step would be to compare the use of Trans-Nasal cotton-tipped catheters to deliver 2% lidocaine prior to use of Ketamine.
